The Priory School Trust converted to academy status on the 1st June 2012 under its previous name of ‘Pursuing Educational Excellence Together’. The Trust consisted of just one school, The Priory School. During this time, it became a National Teaching School and worked with a number of schools, leading in training and professional development of teachers, support staff and headteachers, as well as the raising of standards through school-to-school support.
Shortly after Michael Barratt joined as Principal in 2015, the Trust explored the possibility of moving from a Single Academy Trust (SAT) to a Multi Academy Trust (MAT). In late 2015, St Martins 3-16 School based near Oswestry in north Shropshire, approached the Trust with a view to joining. After undertaking the due diligence process, St Martins 3-16 School joined the Trust on September 1st, 2016.
In July 2017, the Trust was delighted to welcome Coleham Primary School, a ‘Good’ primary school in central Shrewsbury, to its family.
When the Trust reached three schools it was decided to introduce a central MAT Office, which allows the Trust to centralise services to schools. The central office is based at The Priory School and consists of an Executive Principal, Finance Director, Finance Assistant, HR Manager and IT Network Manager. These employees, along with the a number of external professionals, can offer a wide range of services to our schools including school improvement, finance & audit, HR, IT, Educational Welfare, health & safety, legal and insurances. Centralising certain services has allowed economies of scale to be created, achieving best value for our schools.
